The publication specifies that many of the list got high positions in the top through the sale of part of their own companies, studios or rights to music and other assets.

The director of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy made $580 million last year. Thanks to a deal to sell a share of his visual effects studio to Weta Digital for $1.6 billion, he also became the third-billionaire director in history, after Steven Spielberg and the creator of the legendary space saga “Star Wars” George Lucas.

Second place went to rock musician Bruce Springsteen – also thanks to a bargain. In December, Bruce sold all the rights to his music to the label Sony Music Group for about $ 500 million for a total of 2021, he earned $ 435 million.

The rapper Jay-Z is on the third line with $340 million in annual earnings. He sold his share of the champagne brand Armand de Brignac, and parted with a stake in the streaming service Tidal.

Fans of Sting have nothing to fear: the singer and musician will still be able to perform all of his songs whenever he wants. But royalties will go to Universal Music Publishing Group, which is a division of the Universal Music Group record corporation, if any reissues of the albums, compilations of hits or performances of the tracks at concerts are made.

In an official statement, the company said, “Universal Music Publishing Group, UMG’s premier music publishing division, announces it has acquired Sting’s music catalog.” This means that “the company acquires the rights to all of the artist’s solo projects, including his latest album The Bridge, as well as all of the music he recorded as a member of The Police.”

According to The New York Times, the deal could have been as much as $250 million (the parties to the agreement wouldn’t give a figure themselves).

Sure, it seems huge. But then again, Sting is one of the most overdubbed artists today, with covers of his hits by stars ranging from Julio Iglesias to trendy rappers and indie rockers. And fragments of his recognizable music are sometimes very willing to use in their advertising campaigns of reputable firms.

So this amount will gradually be “repaid”, and good, favorite by a generation of music lovers Sting’s hits really is a lot. In addition, the agreement included and the songs that the musician wrote from 1976 to1983 years for the cult band The Police.

And, most likely, the UMPG company will rush to reissue those glorious compositions, to the delight of many fans, in order to get more profit.

The same ceremony of presenting the main musical award of Great Britain – Brit Awards – took place on the 8th of February. Offline again – at O2 Arena in London.

Many of the nominees took to the stage to perform their hits. Among them, besides Adele, were Ed Sheeran, who sang his recent dance hit Bad Habits with indie-rock band Bring Me the Horizon and Liam Gallagher (ex-Oasis) with the premiere song Everything’s Electric.

As well as Little Simz, Sam Fender, Holly Humberstone, Dave and Ann Marie, who brought both rapper Ksi and electronic lineup Digital Farm Animals to the stage.

The list of award guests was equally representative: Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones, DJ David Guetta, singer Courtney Cox and others.

It is worth mentioning that for the first time in many years the Group of the Year nomination was won by Wolf Alice, a new band with excellent and instantly memorable female vocals.

The band’s management promises to keep fans informed, and as soon as doctors say something concrete, concert dates will be adjusted.

The band has been around since 1969. The first album was released in 1974. Judas Priest is one of the bands which have defined the sound of heavy metal.

Richard Faulkner joined the band in 2011, replacing Kenneth Downing. Before that the musician worked with Dirty Deeds, Voodoo Six, Ace Mafia and Lauryn Harris – the daughter of Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris.
